The Belgian artist Sophie Nys (1974) brings together sculpture, drawing, photography, and video that examine with a wry sense of humour and play, themes of history, philosophy and architecture among others. With minimal interference and reduced means, in her practice, objects and images from everyday life are transformed and repositioned. In doing so the artist poses questions about cause and effect, transience and continuity and opens up new spaces for reflection, resistance, creativity and thought.
Sophie Nys (b. 1974) lives and works in Zurich and Brussels. Previous exhibitions include solo shows at CRAC Alsace in Altkirch in 2015, Galerie Greta Meert in Brussels in 2014, La Loge in Brussels in 2013, Circuit in Lausanne and Projecte SD in Barcelona in 2012. Sophie Nys’ work has been included in group exhibitions at Swiss Art Awards Basel, Haus Konstruktiv Zürich, Maniera Brussels and Artists Space New York.
