In this edition, Beijing-based artist, Zhang Dali, provides an example of photographic manipulation carried out by the Chinese government during the regime of Mao Tse-tung (1949–76). Using a compare and contrast format these prints present an original, unmodified image of Mao Tse-tung (Zedong) and Deng Xiaoping alongside its doctored doppelgänger. This image, like many others were manipulated in party-run, photo labs in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s for use in the Chinese propaganda market.
