Canadian artist Zin Taylor has begun to make a name for himself across Europe by creating large scale installations that feature rough hewn sculptures amidst room sized murals of cartoon-like doodles that cover all the walls of the gallery. Featured in exhibitions at the Kunsthal Charlottenborg (Copenhagen), Supportico Lopez (Berlin), Oakville Galleries (Toronto), Mendes Wood DM (Sao Paulo), and currently at the Westfälischer Kunstverein (Münster), Taylor’s inventive environments use drawings like words in a sentence, weaving elusive narratives that envelop the viewer.
Following close on the heels of his first index, VOID FLOWERS 2 presents over 150 additional drawings featured in these installations. Created in Taylor’s signature style and assembled from an extensive collection of notebooks this compendium presents a diverse range of solitary objects (cactus, plat pot, blanket, etc.) isolated on white backgrounds. Something akin to a dictionary of the banal this artist book provides a deeper look into Taylor’s mysterious lexicon of imagery. Combined with the first volume it offers one of the most comprehensive evaluations of Taylor’s drawing practice to date.
